Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies!
8th Grade Social Studies is the first step students take into learning about United States History. Starting with the colonization of America and ending with the Civil War, students in 8th Grade move on to high school with the knowledge they need to succeed with their future social studies classes.
For my students in 8th Grade, I take a new and exciting approach to the required curriculum. Following a program known as "Living Through History", students not only study the required material but actually become involved with class in a hands-on environment. Students act out the role of a colonist coming to a "New World" and will continue up until the Civil War. Along the way, we not only learn from the textbook, but complete projects in class that allow the student to role-play and add their own mark to history.
This approach to Social Studies keeps students involved and engaged, while teaching the material in a non-traditional way. The only way this course is effective is if each student becomes involved and embraces the project. As the teacher, I will do my best to prepare amazing lessons that keep students excited for what will come next. As a student, your job is to have an open mind and be willing to try a new approach to how history is taught. I look forward to an amazing year with you!
